Published on July 2, 2021, a court in Kibera law courts handed down a sentence to David Maloba Omar for causing a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to the court, Omar insulted his mother and slammed her door, leading to a series of chaotic events at Gaudensia Oduor's home in Langata estate between June 18 and 20.
On multiple occasions, Omar threatened to beat his mother, forcing her to take cover inside her bedroom. He even went into the kitchen to cook, leaving food unattended and causing a burn-dry that filled the house and neighbours' homes with soot.
On June 20, Omar brought his drinking buddies to his mother's house, causing further disturbance. Police investigations revealed that Oduor's mother had made similar complaints against him the previous year.
Through his advocate, Omar expressed remorse and claimed to have settled the matter with his mother. However, the court found him guilty and handed down a fine of Sh10,000 and a three-month jail sentence in default.
