On Friday, July 1, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and officers from Kamukunji police station foiled a planned bank heist in downtown Nairobi.
The suspects, Charles Mulo, Fredrick Muderwa, Jesse Muriuki, Gabriel Mungai, and Reuben Njuka, had booked guest rooms at Angle House, which shares a wall with the Prime Bank OTC branch.
According to the DCI, the suspects had planned to drill into the bank in the dead of night, but detectives got wind of the plan and intervened, forcing the suspects to take cover in the ceiling.
However, the detectives brought the ceiling down, exposing the five suspects who were clinging to the roof trusses of the building.
The officers recovered several tools, including three hacksaws, a knotted twisted rope, a metal driller, five metal bars, a metal cutter scissors, and a suitcase.
The suspects were booked at Kamukunji police station and are awaiting arraignment in court.
