Published on July 2, 2021, Michael Bundi, a fast-rising Kenyan reggae artist, has made a name for himself in the music industry.
He gained international recognition after collaborating with Jamaican reggae artist Etana on her new album, 'Pamoja', which is dedicated to Kenyans for their love of reggae music.
According to Bundi, his journey began when he created a short song titled 'A Song for Etana', which went viral on Twitter and caught Etana's attention.
“I made a song called 'A Song for Etana' and shared it on Twitter, where it went viral and eventually reached Etana. We then worked together on a song called 'Pamoja', which also features a Jamaican artist named Yahsha,” Bundi explained in an interview with Deejay Charra on Ghetto Radio Jamrock Doba.
Bundi has also collaborated with another Jamaican star, Delando, on a song titled 'Look a Work', which is yet to be released.
With almost eight years of experience in the music industry, Bundi is known for doing cover songs, which have propelled him to greatness. However, he notes that corporates and event organizers often do not pay much to cover artists during gigs.
“I started doing original songs, but it was cover songs that made me known. The biggest challenge is that when you get corporates, they don't pay much to cover artists,” Bundi added.
He also called upon fans to respect cover artists, as they also put in work to promote a song.
YouTube has strict regulations on cover artists, with much of their efforts going to composers.
Looking to the future, Bundi is preparing an album titled 'Boom Shot', which will feature collaborations with artists from Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and the Caribbean Islands of Antigua.
He attributes his love for reggae as a medium for fighting social injustices and spreading good vibes.
