Published on July 2, 2021, Kenya Airways has cut its flight frequency to Entebbe, Uganda, from 12 to 9 weekly due to an upsurge of COVID-19 in the country and strict government containment measures.
The airline has also previously reduced its flights to New York from two to one weekly, citing a slump in demand since resuming operations on the route in November 2020.
However, Kenya Airways has negotiated a productivity-based payment method with its lessors, which is expected to save the airline $45 million this year.
By changing the lease terms on its aircraft fleet to hourly rates, the airline aims to cut expenses involved in fleet management and has already saved $3.1 million after terminating a leasing agreement of two Boeing 737-700.
