On July 2, 2021, police in Nairobi received a tip-off from a member of the public about a potential bank heist in the city's central business district.
The tip led authorities to Angle House on Ukwala Lane, where five men had booked themselves into a guest house near Prime Bank.
Police officers ambushed the suspects just before midnight, preventing them from executing their plan to raid the bank.
According to police, the suspects had brought various tools with them, including hacksaws, a rope, a metal driller, metal bars, and a metal cutter.
Police identified the suspects as Mulo, Muderwa, Muriuki, Mungai, and Njuka, who had allegedly planned to target Prime Bank, which shares a wall with the guest room where they were staying.
One of the suspects, Njuka, had even cut a hole in the ceiling and hidden in it upon noticing the presence of police officers.
Police recovered the tools and arrested the five suspects, who will undergo an identification parade at the Kamukunji Police Station.
