On June 29, at 5pm, Gerald Guandaru was abducted in Nyeri Town. The incident comes a year after he was acquitted of wildlife trafficking charges.

According to police records, Guandaru was arrested in a similar manner in May 2017 and charged with possessing a wildlife trophy. He was later acquitted due to inconsistencies in the prosecution's evidence.

Two other men were abducted a day after Guandaru's kidnapping, 10 metres from a barbershop he owns in Kieni West. The two men were travelling with four others from Ndaragwa to Narumoru when they were picked up by the kidnappers.

Only two of the group were taken, and their whereabouts are unknown. The police are following leads on the abduction and are also investigating the disappearance of two relatives who were abducted on their way to Narumoru at Kieni Dairy area.

Ali Ahmed, the Kieni West police commander, said they have no leads yet in relation to the kidnapping.
