On July 1, 2021, the family of Sharon Otieno, a 26-year-old whose lifeless body was found in a forest in Oyugis, launched a fundraising campaign to attend the trial of Migori Governor Okoth Obado, who is a suspect in her murder.

Sharon was allegedly seven months pregnant and in a relationship with Governor Obado, who was reportedly the father of the unborn baby.

Through a GoFundMe account, the family is seeking support to meet the expenses of traveling to Nairobi during the trial.

Speaking to K24 Digital, the fund drive organiser, Pauline Inda, said that the family's situation touched her heart, and she felt compelled to help.

Inda, who co-created and co-wrote the showmax original movie Crime and Justice, said that the case highlights a broken society that provides no safety and politicians who have broken their promises.

Meanwhile, Governor Obado's lawyer, Kioko Kilukumi, has requested that the case be postponed due to COVID-19, citing the Ministry of Health's directions issued on June 17.
