July 1, 2021, marks a significant challenge for Samsung as the company grapples with a chip shortage issue affecting its highly anticipated Galaxy S21 FE phone.
Galaxy S21 FE Processor in Jeopardy ¶
Like last year, Samsung planned to release a 'Fan Edition' of the Galaxy S21, but the ongoing chip shortage has put this plan in jeopardy. As a leading player in the industry, Samsung is not immune to the global chip shortage, which may impact the processor's decision on the Galaxy S21 FE.
According to South Korean media, the Galaxy S21 FE may not be equipped with Qualcomm's powerful Snapdragon 888 processor everywhere, as SamMobile summarizes. The reason is the unavailability of the desired number of pieces. Samsung is now considering using its in-house development Exynos 2100 processor in some regions, but this should not significantly affect performance.
Another issue is how Samsung acts as an agreement maker for the Snapdragon 888. However, since the chip division of the company operates independently of Samsung Mobile, the company is not permitted to supply itself due to existing agreements.
Galaxy S21 FE Release Date in Doubt ¶
Due to the chip shortage, rumors are circulating that Samsung may delay the release of the Galaxy S21 FE further back, potentially until late fall. The company may also choose to release only a 5G version of the phone.
