July 1, 2021, marked a significant development at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) as the board appointed former diplomat John Mwangemi as the acting managing director.
Mwangemi, who has served as Kenya's ambassador to Rwanda and Djibouti, takes over from acting MD Rashid Salim, who has retired.
The appointment comes after a year-long search for a substantive head following the resignation of Daniel Manduku in March 2020 amidst corruption charges.
Salim, the agency's general manager for engineering, had been serving in an acting capacity since Manduku's departure.
The recruitment process has been suspended three times, with political interference cited as the reason.
