Published on July 1, 2021, a 15-year-old girl from Kisumu County is facing a daunting challenge in her pursuit of secondary education.

Judith Atieno, who sat for her KCPE exams at Ragumo Primary School, scored an impressive 353 marks, setting her sights on joining Sinyolo Girls High School.

However, her dreams are now in jeopardy due to the lack of school fees, a situation exacerbated by her father's inability to work after breaking his thigh bone.

Atieno's mother, who sells local vegetables to make ends meet, has suggested that she stay at home for a year to save up for school fees, a prospect that Atieno finds disappointing.

"Since there is no money, my mother suggested that I stay home for a year, and we are not sure whether we will get the money," Atieno said.

Adding to her woes, Atieno was also unable to secure the Equity Wings To Fly Scholarship, a setback that has left her feeling desperate.

"Today, I visited Equity bank to confirm if I managed to secure a scholarship, but unfortunately, I have not secured a chance. Please, I'm requesting for your assistance," she cried.

Despite her disappointment, Atieno remains hopeful and is willing to consider joining a day school within Kisumu if she cannot secure a slot at Sinyolo Girls High School.
