Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore Passes Away at 61

July 1, 2019, marked a somber day for Safaricom and the nation as CEO Bob Collymore passed away at the age of 61.

Collymore had been battling Leukemia since 2017, undergoing treatment in the UK and later at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

Despite his condition worsening in recent days, Collymore continued to work, resuming his duties in 2018 after a period of treatment.

His passing has been met with an outpouring of condolences from the Safaricom board, staff, partners, and the nation at large.

"On behalf of the board of Safaricom plc, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, staff of Safaricom plc, partners and the nation at large who he served selflessly with joy," said the Safaricom chairman.

Collymore leaves behind his wife and four children, and his legacy as a dedicated leader in the telecommunications industry will be remembered.
