June 30, 2021, marked a significant milestone for Google Chrome users, as the browser's lack of built-in password protection became a pressing concern. Fortunately, a simple solution exists in the form of the LockPW extension, available on the Chrome Web Store.

By installing LockPW and setting a password, you can safeguard your browsing history, bookmarks, and other private information from unauthorized access. This is particularly important, given that every website you visit is saved in your browsing history.

Setting Up LockPW

To get started, click this link to access the LockPW extensions page or search for it in the Chrome Web Store. Once installed, follow these steps:

  • Click 'Add to Chrome' on the extension's page, and a new tab will open with instructions on how the extension works and how to prevent Chrome from using it on specific websites.
  • Press the 'Next' button to proceed to the Additional settings page, where you'll enter your password in a secure box.
  • Input both your password and password hint, then save your changes to enable password protection.
  • Additional options include Auto lock, logging, hotkeys, and more.

With LockPW enabled, you'll be prompted to enter your password every time you launch Google Chrome. You can also use basic keyboard commands to lock the browser while in use.

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy a more secure browsing experience with Google Chrome.
