On June 30, 2021, Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter announced the appointment of Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria as the new Director-General for the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
Replacing Pavel Oimeke, who left the regulator earlier this year, Kiptoo brings a wealth of experience in the Energy and Petroleum sectors, with a bias in policy formulation, regulation, and project finance.
According to EPRA Chairman Jackton Ojwang, Kiptoo's appointment followed a competitive recruitment process in which he emerged top.
As the new Director-General, Kiptoo's tenure will run for a three-year period, effective July 1, 2021.
Before his appointment, Kiptoo served as the Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Energy and State Department of Petroleum and Chairman of the Government's first oil committee.
Mr. Kiptoo was instrumental in drafting the Energy Act, 2019 and Petroleum Act, 2019.
