As the country grapples with the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has taken a step to ease the burden on potential members. In a move announced on June 30, 2021, the party has waived its Ksh100 membership fee for ordinary membership.

According to a notice issued by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the decision follows an intervention by party leader Raila Odinga. Sifuna revealed that the ODM leader had heeded the petitions of many who sought the waiver due to the prevailing economic conditions.

‘In light of this, the party leader Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga has directed my office to waive the membership fee for anyone wishing to join our party in the next 3 months beginning July 1, 2021,’ Sifuna said.

The waiver window is expected to last for three months, and the party has urged its supporters to take advantage of the opportunity to register in large numbers. Those who do not register as party members within this period will not be eligible to participate in the party’s grassroots elections and nomination exercise.
