A brazen thief was caught on camera stealing a mobile phone from a customer in a Nairobi restaurant on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

The incident occurred along Gaberone road off Luthuli avenue in Nairobi, where the thief approached the customer from behind and snatched her phone before dashing out.

Fortunately, the woman was able to get the attention of other customers who were having breakfast at the restaurant, but unfortunately, the thief was not caught.

"It was at around 6:30 am in the morning. Unfortunately, the culprit was not caught," said Kimani Ngina, the hotel owner.

The incident highlights the growing insecurity cases in Nairobi CBD and its environs, with many residents taking to social media to narrate their ordeals.

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has vowed to beef up security in the CBD, while the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has urged victims to formalize their complaints at the Nairobi Central DCI offices.

"While many victims take to social media to narrate their ordeals in the hands of mugger gangs (which is good sensitization), we further urge them to formalize those complaints..." said the DCI.
