On June 30, 2021, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) issued a summons to Nairobi County's Chief Finance Officer, Halkano Waqo, in connection with an ongoing investigation into the irregular award of tenders for the supply and delivery of food and non-food items for disaster emergencies.

The EACC is acting on a report filed by Makongeni Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Imwatok, who alleged that millions of shillings were paid to companies belonging to Members of County Assembly or their proxies for services or goods that were never supplied.

According to payment vouchers, the firms supplied foodstuff including rice, sugar, maize, and wheat flour, bread, mineral water, sanitary towels, blankets, mattresses, and basins.

Imwatok stated, 'It is absurd that the taxpayers' money amounting to millions shall be paid to companies belonging to Members of County Assembly or their proxies for services or goods that were never supplied.'

The EACC has requested that Waqo appear for an interview and statement recording on June 30, 2021, at 9:00 am at the Integrity Centre.
