On June 30, 2021, Nyamira County Governor Amos Nyaribo flagged off a consignment of assorted medical drugs and medicine worth Sh33 million to all 113 health facilities in the county.
Speaking at Nyamira, Governor Nyaribo emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability among health workers, citing a few reports of misuse and theft of medical supplies.
"We are flagging off a consignment of assorted medicines to meet all resident’s health care needs at affordable rates," Governor Nyaribo confirmed.
He commended health workers for prompt utilization of the medicines flagged off in February this year, noting that no case of theft had been reported so far.
However, Governor Nyaribo urged residents to keep an eye out for any incidents of misuse of these commodities in their areas and report them to the authorities.
As part of efforts to end the misuse and theft of medical supplies, the Governor’s government intends to automate medicine management in the 2021/22 financial year, starting with the main hospitals and subsequently rolling out to dispensaries and health centers.
