June 30, 2021, Johannesburg - The government of eSwatini is working to ensure the situation returns to normal, said acting Prime Minister Themba Masuku.

Protests in the country have been hijacked by criminal elements, leading to attacks on people, destruction of property, looting of businesses, and blocking of public roads, Masuku stated.

The government has been following the protests and is addressing the concerns of the people, Masuku assured. He called for a peaceful resolution of the grievances and emphasized the importance of upholding the law.

eSwatini is a nation that believes in dialogue, Masuku said, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, aggrieved citizens are advised to express their grievances through email.

As part of the measures to restore order, the government has introduced a curfew from 6pm to 5am, closed schools, and ordered network providers to shut down internet connectivity. Military and police forces will be deployed to quell protests and maintain law and order.
