Uhuru Extends Curfew, Bans Public Gatherings in 16th Covid-19 Address

On June 29th, President Uhuru Kenyatta made his 16th address on the Covid-19 pandemic, a day after the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a global surge in cases.

During the address, the President stressed the importance of continued adherence to coronavirus preventive measures, citing the need to protect Kenyans from the virus.

Some key points from the address include:

  • Extension of the prohibition on public gatherings for another 60 days.
  • Funerals to be conducted within 96 hours of confirmation of death.
  • Only a maximum of 100 attendees for burials and weddings.
  • One visitor per patient, per day, in hospitals.
  • Voluntary Covid-19 mass vaccination rollout in July.
  • Extension of the ban on public political gatherings for another 60 days.
  • Extension of the curfew for a further 60 days.
  • Government to procure 10 million doses of the American-made Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
