A Nairobi court handed down a 3-month jail term or a fine of Ksh20,000 to Cyrus Nzoka Maithya for stealing Sh16,463 sent to him by mistake via M-Pesa on November 3, 2020.
Maithya, a father of two, pleaded guilty to the charges and asked the court for forgiveness, stating that he depends on his family for support.
However, the court found him guilty of stealing the money, which was meant for Harriet Karimi, and ordered him to return it. Maithya admitted to having already spent the money.
The court's decision was made by Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nazushi.
