Deputy President William Ruto's visit to Embakasi East on Sunday was met with a mixed response from local MP Paul Ongili, alias Babu Owino. While Babu Owino welcomed the DP to the constituency in a social media post on Saturday, he skipped the function to attend a working trip in South Africa.
According to Babu Owino, his trip to Johannesburg was planned a month ago, and he had to leave for South Africa on Saturday night. He apologized for missing the function and expressed his regret in a statement.
"I depart for South Africa tonight for a two-day working trip in Johannesburg. I am scheduled to return to Nairobi on Tuesday to resume my parliamentary duties," Babu Owino said in a statement.
Despite his absence, Babu Owino urged his constituents to respect Ruto in the spirit of building bridges. He also reaffirmed his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's agenda to unite Kenyans through the Handshake.
