On June 14, a 64-year-old woman was admitted to AIC Kijabe Hospital in Kiambu, suffering from various ailments. However, her condition took a devastating turn when she was diagnosed with Covid-19.
According to Lari Sub-county Police Commander Stephen Kirui, the woman was isolated in a separate ward due to her Covid-19 diagnosis, as no other patients with the virus were admitted at the facility at the time.
Tragically, the woman used a cloth to hang herself from a pipe that supplies water to the bathrooms. The police boss confirmed that there were no signs of struggle at the scene.
‘We are treating the incident as a suicide, and DCI officers are conducting thorough investigations to determine the actual reasons behind the incident,’ Commander Kirui told K24 Digital on June 29, 2021.
The police are awaiting the results of a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death. The woman's body remains at the hospital's mortuary.
