Published on June 29, 2021, a tragic love triangle unfolded in Matuu Town, Yatta sub-County of Machakos County, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old woman.
The victim, who was in a relationship with her current boyfriend, was allegedly stabbed multiple times by her 24-year-old ex-boyfriend inside her boyfriend's rented house.
According to Yatta Sub-county head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Bernard Rono, the incident occurred when the ex-boyfriend, who had traveled from Kitui County, discovered his former lover was with someone new.
Speaking to K24 Digital, Rono explained that the suspect had traveled to Matuu for a construction project but instead found himself in a confrontation with his former lover and her new partner.
After stabbing the victim, the suspect fled the scene and later reported a case of assault at the Matuu police station, claiming he was attacked by people he knew.
However, police investigation revealed that the suspect was the attacker, and he was subsequently detained at Matuu police station for further questioning.
The victim was rushed to Matuu Level 4 hospital mortuary where she was pronounced dead due to excessive bleeding.
The suspect was later charged at Kithimani law court on June 30, 2021.
