Published on June 29, 2021, a tragic incident unfolded in Matuu Town, Yatta sub-County of Machakos County, where a 21-year-old woman lost her life in a love triangle gone wrong.

The victim, a young lady, was at her current lover's rented house in Matuu town when her ex-boyfriend, aged 24, appeared at the door.

According to Yatta Sub-county head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Bernard Rono, the suspect had discovered that his former lover had moved on to a new relationship.

Speaking to K24 Digital, Rono explained that an argument erupted between the suspect and the victim's current boyfriend, and in the heat of the moment, the suspect grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the stomach.

The victim managed to escape the house, bleeding heavily, and collapsed outside, leaving behind the two men engaged in a fierce fight.

However, the suspect's attempt to deflect blame by reporting a case of assault at the Matuu police station was short-lived, as police demanded that he lead them to the scene of the crime, where they discovered the truth.

The suspect, a contractor from Kitui County, had allegedly traveled to Matuu for a construction project, but his true intentions were far from innocent.

The victim was rushed to Matuu Level 4 hospital mortuary, where she was pronounced dead due to excessive bleeding.

Police in Yatta detained the suspect at Matuu police station for further questioning before charging him at Kithimani law court on June 30.
