As the 2022 polls approach, leaders in Murang'a County are predicting a wave of defections from the Jubilee Party. Senator Irungu Kang'ata and Kandara MP Alice Wahome, who are allied with Deputy President William Ruto's UDA party, have told Jubilee to expect more leaders to join them.

Speaking to K24 TV on Tuesday night, Senator Kang'ata revealed that he used to enjoy many privileges, including those worth up to Ksh500,000, when he was in government as Chief Whip. He insisted that he made a conscious decision to move camp, citing the support of a vast majority of MPs for William Ruto.

Senator Kang'ata pointed out that a region with 60 MPs has a substantial amount of support for the DP, with the remaining MPs staying for reasons like fear. He also mentioned that around four MPs had already decamped from Jubilee in favor of UDA, including Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba.

Wahome echoed Senator Kang'ata's sentiments, saying that they welcome new members who have joined them recently and that more leaders are expected to join soon. She also revealed that Deputy William Ruto's UDA party is expecting new members from Jubilee after Wamuchomba's defection.
