On June 29, 2021, former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau declared his intention to vie for the Murang'a gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections.
Having previously attempted to secure the seat in 2017, Kamau cited the incumbent governor's term as the reason for his initial decision to step back from politics.
However, Kamau now believes it is the right time to revive his agenda and take over from Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, whom he commended for his efforts in various sectors.
"I wanted to give the governor his time to do his work and the president had also advised us against early campaigns," Kamau said.
Speaking in Murang'a, Kamau emphasized his commitment to completing the governor's initiated projects before embarking on new ones.
He also expressed his confidence in using his foot soldiers to sell his agenda to the residents and becoming the second governor of the county.
Among the areas Kamau plans to focus on are youth empowerment, education, agriculture, and health.
He called for peaceful campaigns devoid of insults and side shows, urging the young people to push for agendas that would improve their livelihoods.
