On June 29, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the government had ordered 10 million vaccines from Johnson and Johnson, with the first shipment expected to arrive in August.
The President stated that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which requires a single jab, would enable Kenya to vaccinate at least 10 million people by December 25.
Uhuru also revealed plans to establish a human vaccine production centre in Kenya to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
Additionally, the President extended the nationwide 10 pm to 4 am curfew for another 60 days, while hotspot counties would continue observing their 7 pm-4 am curfew until July 31.
Hotspot counties include Homa Bay, Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, and Bomet.
