On June 29, 2021, Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) announced its coach of the month for May, and the winner was none other than Gor Mahia's Portuguese tactician, Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto.
Coach Vaz Pinto's impressive record of four consecutive wins in May earned him the coveted title, beating out his counterparts from KCB and AFC Leopards, Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno and Patrick Aussems respectively.
During the month, Gor Mahia started strong with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nairobi City Stars at the Utalii grounds, before edging out Sofapaka 2-1 at Wundanyi Stadium in Taita Taveta.
The 19-time champions continued their winning streak with a narrow 1-0 victory over Vihiga United at the Mumias Sports Complex, and replicated the same score line in their last encounter against Wazito at Kenya Utalii College Sports Club.
As the winner, Coach Vaz Pinto received a customized trophy and a Sh50,000 cash prize. He joins a list of esteemed coaches who have received the award this season, including Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno, Francis Kimanzi, Andre Casa Mbungo, and Stanley Okumbi.
