June 29, 2021, marks a somber day for the families of the 48 people who lost their lives in the Solai dam tragedy of May 9, 2018.

Patel Mansukh, the owner of the Patel Dam in Solai, has died at the Aga Khan Hospital, according to a confirmation from the farm manager.

The Solai dam, located on a farm owned and managed by Perry Mansukh Kansagara and Vinoj Jaya Kumar, burst its banks on the night of May 9, 2018, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.

The floodwaters and debris hit the village of Energy at high speed, washing away homes, cars, and rocks, and affecting the villages of Endao, Milmet, and Arutani downstream.

The tragedy left at least 5,000 people displaced, and its impact is still felt by the survivors today.
