On June 28, 2021, police in Kisumu County arrested a 53-year-old caretaker, Omwani, who has confessed to defiling four minors in the Manyatta area.
According to reports, one of the allegedly defiled minors reported the matter to her parents, leading to Omwani's arrest on Monday afternoon.
During interrogation, Omwani confessed to luring the children with money, offering Ksh. 20, Ksh. 50, and even Ksh. 100.
"I did it this month, the first one is nine years and the other seven years old. She is the one who came close to me. They usually visit me claiming that they don’t have food and most of the time they go hungry. I used to assist them with the little amount I have. I am a security guard at Manyatta," Omwani said.
The minors, all below 12 years old, were allegedly defiled by Omwani, with one of the victims stating that the suspect would threaten them with a knife if they refused his advances.
The suspect is currently at Kondele police station, awaiting arraignment in court.
