On June 29, 2021, a tragic incident occurred in Ciagiini village, Mwea West Sub-county in Kirinyaga, where a 19-year-old girl, Jacklyn Wawira, stabbed her 25-year-old boyfriend, Eric Gitonga, to death.

According to Mwea West Sub-county police commander Stephen Okal, the incident occurred after a heated quarrel between the couple over infidelity claims.

Reports indicate that the suspect, a form two dropout, and her boyfriend, a petrol station attendant, had a confrontation that turned into a fight, resulting in the girl picking a kitchen knife and stabbing her boyfriend to death in her grandmother's compound.

Okal confirmed that the murder weapon had been recovered and the suspect was being held at Kiamaciri police station, with investigations ongoing.

Elsewhere in Mwea West, a man was arrested in Kariko-ini village of Kangai ward for allegedly killing his 28-year-old wife, Esther Wanjiku, over similar claims of infidelity.

According to Okal, the couple had been fighting over cheating claims, and the suspect, Antony Murage, had become aggressive, taking a kitchen knife and stabbing his wife several times.
