Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has been left reeling after his second wife, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, fled the emirate with their two children and £31 million.
According to reports, Princess Haya, who is 45 years old, requested asylum in Germany and filed for divorce immediately after fleeing to Europe.
Sheikh Mohammed has expressed his distress through a series of poems, including one titled 'Affection in Your Eyes', in which he pleads with his wife to forgive his mistakes and soften her heart.
However, in another poem, he refers to Princess Haya as a traitor, saying 'You no longer have any place with me/ Go to who you have been busy with!/ And let this be good for you; I don’t care if you live or you die.'
Princess Haya's exact whereabouts are currently unknown, but it has been reported that she is living in a secret location in the UK, where she prefers to reside in London.
The event has sparked a diplomatic crisis between Germany and the United Arab Emirates, after German authorities declined Sheikh Mohammed's request to return his wife.
Meanwhile, investigations into the alleged conning of Sheikh Mohammed out of Sh400 million in a gold scam are still underway in Kenya.
Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has said that a team of detectives is set to leave for Dubai as part of an ongoing probe to talk to various concerned parties.
