June 28, 2021, marked a dramatic day in the Euro 2020 tournament as Switzerland stunned France in a penalty shootout, advancing to the quarter-finals with a 5-4 win.
Switzerland took an early lead when Haris Seferovic headed home Steven Zuber's cross in the 15th minute, but France fought back with Karim Benzema scoring twice in 103 seconds and Paul Pogba adding a stunning strike to put the team 3-1 up with 15 minutes to go.
However, Seferovic headed his second goal in the 81st minute, and Mario Gavranovic fired a last-gasp equaliser to send the game into extra time, where neither side could score in the allotted 30 minutes.
France's Kylian Mbappe had the chance to seal the win in the penalty shootout, but Switzerland's Yann Sommer saved his spot kick, securing the Swiss team's advancement to the quarter-finals.
