Published on July 1, 2019, a new opinion poll by Infotrak Kenya has shed light on the sentiments of Kenyans regarding the country's direction. The poll, which involved 1,048 participants, found that 48% of respondents felt the country was not headed in the right direction, while only 34% believed it was.

The high cost of living was cited as a major reason for this sentiment, with 55% of those who felt the country was heading in the wrong direction naming it as the primary issue. Corruption and high unemployment rates were also among the top concerns, with 33% and 18% of respondents citing them as major problems, respectively.

Residents of western Kenya were found to be the most dissatisfied with the country's direction, with 57% of respondents from the region expressing their discontent. In contrast, North Eastern Kenya had the highest percentage of respondents who felt the country was heading in the right direction, with 47%.

Infotrak CEO Angela Ambitho attributed the dissatisfaction with the budget to the failure to reduce taxes on essential commodities, which has contributed to the increase in the cost of living. She also called on the country's top leadership to take a moment to reflect on the issues raised by the poll.

"I do not know what message that sends to the Government, but we cannot have the same issues raised all the time. Things need to change," Ambitho said.
