Kenya Records 287 New Covid-19 Cases, 17 Deaths

On June 28, 2021, the Ministry of Health announced 287 new Covid-19 cases from 2,699 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 182,884, with 17 new deaths.

The country's cumulative number of samples tested stands at 1,945,736, with a positivity rate of 10.6 per cent.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe revealed that the new cases comprised 280 Kenyans and seven foreigners, with 170 males and 117 females. The youngest case was a three-month-old child, while the oldest was 89 years old.

Of the new cases, 152 patients had recovered from the disease, with 84 recovering from the home-based and isolation care programme, and 68 from various health facilities across the country.

The total number of recoveries stands at 124,588, while the Covid-19 death toll rose to 3,612 after 17 more patients succumbed to the disease.

Meanwhile, 1,062 patients have been admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 6,730 patients are in home-based isolation and care.

Some 101 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 33 on ventilatory support, 45 on supplemental oxygen, and 23 patients on observation.

Another 116 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, with 102 in the general wards and 14 in the High Dependency Units (HDU).

The cases are distributed in the counties as follows: Nairobi 95, Kajiado 56, Kisii 35, Siaya and Homa Bay 17 cases each, Kakamega 13, Bungoma 11, Busia and Uasin Gishu 9 cases each, Nakuru 7, Garissa 6, Vihiga 4, Kiambu 3, Migori 2, Nyeri, Embu, and Kirinyaga 1 case each.

As of June 28, 2021, a total of 1,293,004 vaccines have been administered across the country, with 1,003,204 first doses and 289,800 second doses.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 28.9 per cent, with the majority being males at 56 per cent and females at 44 per cent.

The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.11 per cent.
