On June 27, 2021, a dramatic incident unfolded in Pipeline estate, Embakasi, when a tenant allegedly attacked a caretaker's brother and vandalized the flat's water tank.
According to the caretaker, Francis Ondari, the tenant, Godfrey Wafula, had been playing loud music, despite repeated complaints from his neighbors. When Ondari switched off Wafula's power from the master switch, Wafula stormed Ondari's house, armed with a long chisel, and attacked his younger brother, who was still in bed.
Neighbours reported hearing Wafula ask why the caretaker always interfered with his privacy as he attacked his victim. After stabbing his victim, Wafula opened the lid of the flat's water reservoir and dumped a used condom in the water as a punishment to the caretaker.
The victim, who is out of danger, said he was asleep and was not aware of what was happening when the seemingly angry Wafula attacked him in his bed.
A section of the tenants reported the matter to the flat's management, who moved in and ordered the tenant to vacate the building. The tenants declined to use the water until it was removed, with one tenant, Eric Mulei, saying, 'We want the caretaker to remove his seeds first before we can use that water for cooking or bathing.'
When contacted for comment, Wafula denied using a screwdriver to attack the victim, terming the incident a small fracas. He also denied throwing the used condom into the water tank, saying he was a married man and no longer used them.
