Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha) has closed two major city roads in Nairobi to allow for the ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway.

Motorists using the Capital Centre access and Waiyaki Way have to find alternative routes, starting from June 28, 2021, as the roads are closed for 34 and 20 days respectively.

The closure is to pave way for the construction of the Nairobi Expressway along Mombasa Road, with motorists advised to use alternative routes.

Kenya National Highways Authority Director-General Peter Mundinia apologised for the inconvenience, stating that the agency is trying to provide an efficient, safe and reliable road network.

The Nairobi Expressway, being built by China Road and Bridge Corporation at a cost of Sh62 billion, is expected to be completed in December 2021.

The 27-kilometre expressway will be a four-lane and six-lane dual carriageway within the existing median of Mombasa Road/Uhuru Highway/Waiyaki Way and 10 interchanges.

Motorists will pay toll fees to use the road running from Mlolongo on Mombasa Road to the James Gichuru Junction in Westlands.
