Published on June 28, 2021, a family in Kisumu is facing a daunting task to settle an Ksh. 800,000 morgue bill after their kin's body lay in hospital for seven years.

According to Jescah Ogada, the wife of the late Barack Ogada, the family had to leave her ID Card at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital to release the body for burial.

The prolonged stay of her husband's body at the morgue saw the bill accrue to Ksh. 800,000, a financial burden that Jescah says has drained them.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio, Jescah narrated the ordeal, saying she lost her job in 2017 after being arrested for burying her late husband in a disputed land.

She also appealed to the general public to assist her family, who have been living in a rental house for seven years, to erect a good house and help her child join form one.

As they struggle to come to terms with the loss of their loved one, the family is now appealing to the Kisumu County Government to help them settle the morgue bill.

Mr. Ogada's body was finally laid to rest last week after a court ruled in their favor in a heated land tussle.

The land in question had been claimed by another individual who had stopped the burial process, claiming he had bought the piece of land.

With eleven grandchildren left behind, Jescah is now appealing to well-wishers to help her family in their time of need.
