As the June 30th 2021 deadline approaches, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is urging taxpayers to file their annual income tax returns on time. According to the Authority, over 5 million taxpayers are expected to meet the deadline.

As of June 20th 2021, an estimated 3.8 million Kenyans had already filed their returns, marking a 20% increase from the same period in 2020, when 3.1 million had filed their returns.

The KRA is relying on its robust iTax platform to facilitate the filing process, which has been enhanced to make it easy for taxpayers to file returns round the clock without any challenges.

Grace Wandera, the Authority's Marketing and Communication Deputy Commissioner, attributes the growth in returns filed to the improved iTax platform, saying that the Authority still expects Kenyans to file their returns before the deadline expires.

Figures from the Authority indicate that during this month alone, it has catered for over 230,000 customers, a growth of 71% for those seeking its services at the various Huduma and Service Centres.

As part of its efforts to cater to the high traffic expected, the KRA has extended the operating hours of its service centres and contact centre.

Additionally, taxpayers are being encouraged to use the KRA M-service App to minimize their visits to public places in light of the pandemic, and virtual assistance is being provided to those who may have issues while filing their returns.
