On June 27, 2021, Brazil's unbeaten streak came to an end as they drew 1-1 with Ecuador in a Copa America Group B match at the Estadio Olimpico Pedro Ludovico in Goiania, Brazil. The draw marked the first time Brazil had not picked up a win since their 1-0 loss to Argentina in a friendly in November 2019.

The host nation had already qualified in first place in Group B and rested several regulars, including Gabriel Barbosa, Everton, Douglas Luiz, Fabinho, and Douglas Luis. Despite this, Brazil still managed to take an early lead thanks to a header from defender Eder Militao.

However, Ecuador fought back and equalized through a thumping drive from substitute Angel Mena after 53 minutes. The game remained evenly matched, with neither side creating many clear-cut chances, and the draw suited both teams.

With Peru defeating Venezuela 1-0 in the other Group B game, Peru joined Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador in the quarter-finals as Venezuela exited the tournament. The quarter-final matchups will be decided on Monday after the final round of Group A fixtures.
