Published on June 27, 2021, the Czech Republic reached the Euro 2020 quarter-finals after a stunning 2-0 win over the 10-man Netherlands in Budapest.
The match saw Tomas Holes and Patrik Schick score crucial goals in the second half, following Matthijs de Ligt's red card in the 55th minute.
Netherlands coach Frank de Boer expressed disappointment over his team's failure to capitalize on chances, stating, 'You have to take your chances at this level, and we didn’t today, it wasn’t good enough, the players did not reach their usual level.'
The Dutch team, who dominated the opening exchanges, failed to land a shot on target throughout the match.
Despite being on the road for the first time in the tournament, the Czechs posed threats of their own with a series of counter-attacks, including Tomas Soucek's header and Antonin Barak's left-footed effort.
Early in the second half, De Ligt's red card swung the advantage decisively toward the Czechs, and Schick sealed the win with his fourth goal of Euro 2020, slotting home a left-foot shot at the near post.
Coach Jaroslav Silhavy praised the team's spirit, saying, 'Holes is a defensive player but he scored one goal and assisted another, he performed 110 percent, that shows the team spirit we have.'
