June 27, 2021 - Kenya's Onkar Rai made history by winning the Category 3 race in the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, a grueling four-day competition.

Onkar, the son of Kabras Sugar Company owner Jaswant Singh Rai, dedicated his victory to his elder brother Tejveer Rai, who had crashed in the race on June 25.

Onkar's win marked a significant achievement for Kenya, as he outperformed top drivers from around the world. He finished seventh on Friday, but his determination and skill ultimately paid off.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, flanked by Sports CS Amina Mohammed, Tourism CS Najib Balala, ODM leader Raila Odinga, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, awarded the winners of the race.

The WRC has attracted a huge number of crowds, with fans pouring in to watch the return of the rally after a 19-year absence. However, the large turnout led to traffic snarl-ups on the roads in Naivasha, prompting the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) to offer alternative routes.

Despite the challenges, the event was a success, with Onkar's win being a highlight of the competition.
