On June 26, 2021, a funeral in Bungoma turned violent after a scuffle broke out between Kabula Member of County Assembly Vitalis Nyongesa and a group of youths.

According to eyewitnesses, the chaos erupted at a funeral in Tuuti village, Kanduyi Sub County, which was attended by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and former Bumula MP Wakoli Bifwoli.

Police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd after the scuffle ensued between Nyongesa and the youths.

Earlier in June, a similar incident occurred at a funeral in Bungoma, where Lwandanyi MCA Tony Barasa was dragged off the podium by Governor Wycliffe Wangamati's supporters.

Barasa had reported the incident at Bungoma Police Station, claiming his life was in danger and that no action had been taken despite reporting the matter twice.

Governor Wangamati condemned the incident, terming it as unfortunate and promising to factor in the youth in appointments of village administrators.

“We don’t want politics of wars and division, we want peace in Bungoma and when you criticize, do so constructively,” Wangamati cautioned.
