On June 26, 2021, a severe traffic congestion occurred on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, prompting the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to issue an advisory to motorists.
According to a statement signed by Director General P.M Mundinia, KeNHA was in the process of dualling the road stretch through the Public-Private Partnership Programme.
However, in the meantime, the authority urged motorists to use alternative routes to avoid the traffic congestion.
Heavy goods vehicles were directed to use the Rironi-Mai Mahiu- Naivasha route (A8 South), while other vehicles were advised to use the Rironi-Naivasha (A8) route.
The traffic congestion was attributed to the convergence of all traffic from Naivasha to Nakuru routes and local traffic, resulting in a considerable surge in traffic in this stretch.
"KeNHA encourages motorists to use the above alternative routes between Nairobi and Nakuru whenever convenient to avoid traffic snarl-up in Naivasha as it endeavors to provide an efficient, safe and reliable network," the authority stated.
