Published on June 26, 2021, a Kisumu court has brought closure to the family of a man whose body had been lying in the morgue for over seven years.
Barack Ogada Ouko died in May 2014, but his family's woes began the same month when they tried to bury him in their ancestral land in Tieng're K'oranda village.
However, their plans were thwarted by one James Onunga, who claimed the land was his and was accompanied by police officers.
Despite receiving a court order in 2017, allowing them to bury their kin, the body was exhumed just two months later by Onunga, who insisted he would not allow anyone to be buried on his alleged land.
But in a recent ruling, the court noted that Onunga had failed to prove his case, paving the way for the family to finally lay their loved one to rest.
On June 25, 2021, the body was released from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mortuary to his home in Tiengre in Kisumu West, where burial arrangements will be made.
