On June 26, 2021, a Non-Governmental Organization made a significant contribution to the education sector in Busia County by donating bicycles to 50 students from St. Mathias and St. Peter's Igero Secondary Schools.
The students, who were carefully selected from two schools, are needy, travel long distances to school, are academically promising, and their parents have shown commitment in paying the minimum school levies.
Speaking at the Busia County Commissioner's office, the CEO of Grow Against Poverty, Hellen Mukanda, said the move is to promote quality education by supporting the government's initiative of 100% transition.

Busia Deputy County Commissioner, Kipchumba Ruto, cycled alongside the students who benefitted from the donation.
The organization plans to continue fundraising to assist girls and protect them from Boda boda riders and other men bent on sexually abusing them.
According to the Organization's Director, Paul Otiti, access to schools is still a major challenge to most students in the County, with many having to travel long distances to access schools.
As an organization, they are stepping in to ensure that bright, needy students who live far from school access the learning institutions with ease.
The Principal of St. Mathias Secondary School, Titus Isogol, hailed the organization for the initiative, saying it will motivate the beneficiaries.
He urged other organizations to support day schools in terms of infrastructure development and donation of equipment such as computers and laptops.
