Published on June 26, 2021, Nairobi has been chosen to host the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa Summit (AGRA) in September.
The summit, scheduled to take place from September 7 to 10, will feature 500 in-person participants and 10,000 virtual attendees from more than 150 countries.
According to a statement from the Press Office at State House, the AGRA delegation led by former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn informed President Uhuru Kenyatta that Nairobi was selected due to the government's efforts in addressing nutrition and food security in the country.
"The team informed the President that AGRA had settled on Nairobi to host the Summit because of strides made by Kenya on the nutrition & food security pillar of the Big Four Agenda," the statement read.
The agricultural sector remains a priority for the government, with a budget allocation of Sh60 billion in the new financial year.
The AGRA summit will provide Kenya with an opportunity to showcase its successes to the global community, said the delegation, which also included AGRA President Agnes Kalibata.
The summit has been a platform for players in the agriculture sector to share lessons and move agriculture in Africa forward.
