Naivasha's red light district is experiencing a surge in activity ahead of the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, which is making a return to Kenya after 19 years.
Commercial sex workers in the town are hoping to cash in on the high number of visitors expected to attend the event, but their business has been struggling due to the 10 pm-4 am curfew aimed at curtailing the spread of Covid-19.
"I had hoped the business would be good but it has not been the case," said one of the commercial sex workers, highlighting the challenges they face in attracting clients.
A taxi operator in the area has reported ferrying a number of commercial sex workers around the central business district, but the nightlife in Naivasha has largely been disrupted by the curfew.
Despite the vibrant red lights before curfew hours, the high presence of security officers has ensured that law and order is maintained in the town.
