On September 25th last year, a senseless act of violence shook the quiet streets of Kapkelelwa in Baringo Central sub-county. Sylvester Kiptai, a neighbour of Esther Chemjor, shot her with an arrow outside her house, leaving her hospitalized for a month.
According to Chemjor, who testified in a Kabarnet court, the incident occurred in the evening when Kiptai suddenly entered her compound and demanded to know where her husband was. When she told him she didn't know, he shot her with an arrow.
Chemjor, who appeared before Kabarnet Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Biwot, denied having any wrangles with Kiptai's family, stating that she doesn't understand what prompted him to attack her.
She recounted that it was her screams and noises due to the pain that made neighbours and her husband come to her rescue. The incident was reported by her brother, Karasta, at Kabarnet police station.
During cross-examination, Prosecutor Joseck Abwajo sought to know how Chemjor identified Kiptai in the dark, but she explained that she recognized him by his voice.
