On September 25th last year, a senseless act of violence shook the quiet streets of Kapkelelwa in Baringo Central sub-county. Sylvester Kiptai, a neighbour of Esther Chemjor, allegedly shot her with an arrow outside her house, leaving her for dead.

According to Chemjor, who testified in a Kabarnet court, the incident occurred in the evening when Kiptai suddenly entered her compound, shouting and demanding to know where her husband was. When she told him she didn't know, he shot her with an arrow.

Chemjor, who was hospitalized for a month after the incident, denied having any wrangles with Kiptai's family, stating that she didn't understand what prompted the attack. It was her screams and noises due to the pain that brought her neighbours and husband to her rescue.

Prosecutor Joseck Abwajo cross-examined Chemjor, seeking to know how she identified Kiptai in the dark. She replied that she recognized him by his voice during the incident.

The court has ordered that two remaining witnesses be availed on July 5, after which a determination will be made in the case.
